Weekend Rap Up: B.o.B. ft Andre 3000, Ed Sheeran ft Yelawolf, Termanology, Jakk Frost, Fabolous ft Meek Mill + Tyga ft. Wale, Fab, Meek, Jeezy & T.I.
I told ya’ll I’d be back with some more jams tonight. First things first though; how bout my boy Derrick Rose today? My favorite basketball players have always been point guards. Not just because I played PG in my days, but because in most cases, the odds are stacked against them in a sport that creates a natural advantage for those blessed with size. So every time Derrick Rose takes it to the rack, slashing through defenders and adjusting his release while floating through the air so to avoid the outstretched arms of those taller than him, you have to appreciate the skill required more-so than that of Lebron James jumping over lil’ Johnny Lucas and throwing down with two hands. Although, that was pretty nasty, too. As far as the game as a whole goes, with no Deng, no CJ, I gotta say that was one of the most satisfying L’s I’ve ever witnessed. Plus I hit the over for Rose total points (22.5) and Noah total rebounds (9.5), along with 2nd half spread (Bulls +1.5). I swear I don’t have a problem….onto the music…
This one dropped a while ago while I was boycotting being productive. B.o.B. use to be confused with Andre when he first started dropping tracks 3-4 years ago, so it’s cool to hear them go back-to-back. I never really heard the connection, but regardless, I like the combo. Of course, Andre wins in this one. Which I guess means Bobby wins too. This one gets some body parts moving.
B.o.B. – Play The Guitar (ft. Andre 3000) (right-click, “save as” to dl)
This is just a great song. I really like this British (I think) dude’s voice/vibe. And Yela meshes his flow perfectly with that vibe, while his voice is the perfect compliment. Shit is smooth as hell.
Ed Sheeran & Yelawolf – You Don’t Know (For Fuck’s Sake) (right-click, “save as” to dl)
It’s extrememely difficult for me to not enjoy any song utilizing the Play N Skillz “Freaks” sample. Absolute classic. Well, actually in their song they sampled this weird “Moments in Love” song themselves, but to the hip hop community, it’s now the “Freaks” sample. Anyway, outside of the sample, I really like a lot of what I hear from Term. Dude can flow.
Termanology – Speed It Up (ft. Anjuli Stars) (right-click, “save as” to dl)
This is another one I came across a lil while back but just never threw up on the Funk. I always appreciate a verse from Fab, and Meek Mill surprises me more and more each time I hear a new verse. These aren’t your typical lazy coke rappers.
Fabolous – You Don’t Know (ft. Meek Mill) (right-click, “save as” to dl)
This one is interesting to say the least. It’s hard to take seriously because of the hook, but it’s actually some quality storytelling. I really like the quirky beat too.
Jakk Frost – Dirty Uggs (right-click, “save as” to dl)
I posted the Wale and Meek version a while ago, but this one includes some more high profile verses to complete the “official” remix. Tyga got real lucky with this beat.
Tyga ft Wale, Fabolous, Young Jeezy, Meek Mill & T.I. – Rack City (remix) (right-click, “save as” to dl)
So I can’t lie, the beat and flow at the start is dope as fuck. My level of interest kinda starts to fade as the song continues on though, mainly because the hook is pretty weak. This might be one I like for a week and then never listen to again. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check it out though. I like dude’s name though, pretty clever kid. And I like his mentality with women. Seriously, I think he’s on to something pretty profound here. If only Andre 3000 would stay out my head….
“I didn’t know she had a boyfriend, so the door I pointed her to
I said, Call me when ya’ll break up. I don’t fuck nobody bitch and never on the Jacob” – Da Art of Story Telling Part 4…classic
Wifey Wednesday: Beyonce ft Andre 3000, Shwayze ft The Cataracs, Iyaz, Mario ft Kelly Rowland & Lil Wayne, Rico Love, Verse Simmonds ft Kelly Rowland + Collin Mcloughlin ft Hendersin
So WordPress keeps track of all the hits I get from search engines and tells me what was actually searched to bring them to the Funk. Here’s one from yesterday; ”Does Nicki Minaj like white guys?”….Yep, this is my audience. (Simmons)
First up, Boo Thang. You know, because boo by itself was just a little too formal, not to mention way too suggestive. So “when your friends ask, I’m not your man, just the closest thing that ya have to a boo thannnng.” Seriously, we needed a new term for that “not so much baby girl” but more than “just a cutty buddy.” I’m not even being sarcastic, I know it’s hard to tell sometimes. But boo vision?
Next up, we gon’ put it down….I think. I’m actually kinda confused. Is he saying, “don’t put it down”? I thought you just said you love the way she put it down, Rico? Whatever, I like this one too. Something to juke to.
(MP3): Rico Love – Pick It Up
I feel like this might gain some steam. Not a huge fan, but The Cataracs got quite the hype goin for em these days and Shwayze is always up for a chill summertime jam.
When I saw the names Kanye, Andre 3000, and Consequence all attached to a Beyonce joint, you know I was pretty excited and eager to hear what came of it. Well, I’m pretty disappointed. But the ladies gotta love some new Beyonce, right? Btw, don’t be surprised if this song is removed from Hulkshare within about an hour of me posting this….
This really pains me to post, because it sounds exactly like every shitty pop/club song I hate. But seeing as though Wifey Wednesday seems to get the most hits on my blog (smh), I gotta give the people what they want. I really hope those people are strictly females. Don’t get it confused dudes, this is NOT that jam.
This guy Collin has a really nice voice. Pretty unique in my mind. You already know that new Khaled is the shit, and the beat is really what makes this joint. But I’m still diggin dude’s RnB interpretation with the switch of the theme.
This is easily the RnB beat of the year, in my opinion. I love this shit. Makes me wanna slow wind with a boo thang all night. Mario adds some killer vocals to the remix. I know what was motivating him in that Dancing with the Stars competition. Damn.
What do I remember from my sophomore year of college? I remember I had a great fucking time AND stayed out of trouble. I can absolutely say with certainty that second semester, when I lived with my boys Estes and Sened in room 11 of the Frat, I had the time of my life. I’d say at least 4-5 nights a week, if you were coming back to the house from work/booty at 3-4 am, you would hear us wangin’ on your up the front porch. Literally, same songs every night. Great fucking semester. Already, I have a terrible memory. This particular semester (on top of the rest of college) definitely did not enhance that ability to recall either. Still, these songs bring me right back. Living without a care in the world, and loving it.
