Wifey Wednesday: Iggy Azalea, Drake & Rihanna, Vybz Kartel ft Pusha T, The Knocks, Flo-Rida ft Christina Aguilara, De-Lor + Nicki Minaj

It was nice getting back to finding music this weekend. It was especially nice to have about 3 weeks worth of material to choose from, just made my post organization that much easier. Of course I came up on enough decent material to get my hungry rap fiends their weekly dish on Sunday. I was also able to pull together a handful of quality mashups that were just made for Monday, alliteratively speaking of course. (side note, I can’t believe alliteratively is a real word and I have no idea if I just utilized it properly.) Tuesday was filled with some different solid weird shit, and here we are on Wednesday with a plateful for the wifeys. And by wifey material I just mean common ground I could see myself sharing with some lady friends from the past and present….It just so happens I know a lot of white girls.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m kinda down with the Aussie white girl swag. I don’t know all about that “mean” intro, but this beat is nice and she actually flows pretty decent in the second verse. I like Azealia Bank’s “212” better, still. But then again Iggy does advise, “this is for the bitches getting money up in here.” I’m disqualified in more ways than one.

Iggy Azalea – My World

Forget the wifey, this is my jam right here. Think Gyptian, Serani, or any amazing reggae jam. I literally have trouble not winding it up immediately when this song comes on.

Vybz Kartel – Half On A Baby (remix) (ft. Pusha T) (right-click, “save as” to dl)

I think I’ve shared my fondness for Drake for various reasons in the past, so I’ll leave all that alone. But I do like his response to people calling him soft in “Lord Knows” and feel like pointing it out….

“I’m hearin’ all of the jokes, I know that they’re trying to push me
I know that showing emotion don’t ever mean I’m a pussy
Know that I don’t make music for niggas who don’t get pussy
so those are the ones I count on to diss me overlook me”

Drake – Take Care (ft. Rihanna) (Syko Remix) (right-click, “save as” to dl)

The Knocks just put me in a good mood. All their music is just so happy, it’s really nice. Especially with most of the depressing shit I usually listen to. Personally, I like this remix better than the original. Lucky me (and you), the remix is free……..I’m just waiting for dreading the day someone figures out how to really end online sharing, or finally make it profitable and therefor non-inclusive.

The Knocks – Brightside (TheFatRat Remix)
(right-click, “save as” to dl)

I have never heard one song go through so many official makeovers in my life. This is actually a pretty good remix. Christina’s got quite the voice on her.

Flo-Rida – Good Feeling (Official Remix) (ft. Christina Aguilara) (right-click, “save as” to dl)

So whenever I write a post I just continually listen through the list songs I plan on sharing over and over while I think of things to write (this usually lasts at least an hour or two). I’m not going to lie; I’m already sick of this song and not sure what really made me want to download it in the first place. But I figured it kinda sounds like a Taio Cruz song so some of my white girls gotta dig it, right?

De-Lor – Your Body (Sexy Ray Vision Remix) (right-click, “save as” to dl)

I found these a while ago and threw them on a playlist, but I never actually shared the links. Enjoy free remix music while you still can people!

Nicki Minaj – Moment 4 Life (ft. Drake) (DJ Kue Remix)
(right-click, “save as” to dl)

Captain Cuts – Dancing With Avicii (Avicii // The Knocks) (right-click, “save as” to dl)

Best of….The Funk’s First Half of 2011: Top 10 Dance Remix/Mashups

So the first half of 2011 has come to a close. It’s been an especially big 6 months for me with the number of changes in my life. You may have gotten a glimpse of this if you’ve been following along the funk and listen to my rants. But I started this blog in January to provide myself with a little purpose, and to keep busy in a productive way. And while it started as just a way to share good music with people, it seems to have taken on even greater purpose, for me at least.

As you’ll notice while my life takes on the high and lows, the music will always be right there with me. And since this weekend is about good times in backyards, boats, and bars, I thought I’d give you something to match the mood. Here is the top 10 dance remix/mashups I’ve discovered in the first half of 2011 for you to add to your party playlist if you missed it the first time around on the Funk. Enjoy!

10. Flo Rida – Good Feeling (over Avicii’s Levels)

9. The White Panda – Infinite Dream (Katy Perry//Guru Josh Project)

8. Adele – Set Fire To The Rain (Thomas Gold remix)

7. Ciara ft The Dream – Ride (dj.dstar remix)

6. Britney Spears ft Nicki Minaj & Kesha – Til the World Ends (remix)

5. Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix)

4. Foster the People – Pumped up Kicks (The Knocks remix)

3. Chromeo – Hot Mess (Duck Sauce Remix)

2. Foster The People – Houdini (RAC remix)

1. Ellie Goulding ft Three 6 Mafia – Keep Me Under the Sheets (Mochi Beats remix)

Wifey Wednesday: Frankmusik ft Far East Movement, Jean-Roch ft Kat Deluna & Flo Rida, Alex Guadino ft Kelly Rowland & Vibe

Wifey Wednesday seems to be a fan favorite, so I gotta give the people what they want. I’m just gonna get right into this because you just want them jams, I know. Plus the NBA playoffs are on and I don’t generally have a lot to say about club jam/pop songs anyway. Little shorter list, but some good stuff for the party or workout playlist. I could see this third one in particular causing some problems on the dance floor….Click title under player to download song at hulkshare.

Frankmusik – Do It In The AM (ft Far East Movement)

Jean-Roch ft Kat Deluna & Flo Rida – Im Alright (Radio Rip)

Alex Guadino ft Kelly Rowland – What A Feeling (Hardwell Remix)

This next one obviously doesn’t fit the same category as the last three. This duo calls themselves Vibe. I think these dudes can really do some real big things with what the got going right here. Rossy dude has got a great singing voice, and this Chris Young is just plain sick, for real. Diggin it.

Chris Young the Rapper & Rossy (Vibe) – Touch The Stars

Wifey Wednesday: Ghostface vs Ace of Base, David Guetta, Taio Cruz, Kenna, The Knocks + so much more

I don’t care what you say, but when Danny McBride (bka Kenny Powers) kicks some knowledge like this right off that bat, no more credibility needed even if you’re mashing the oh so gangster Ghostface Killa with some…….really? Fuck it, that Ace of Base shit was catchy back in the day, I won’t lie.

Wick-it the Instigator – Ghostface of Base

Nicki is one silly chick. I respect the showman(woman?)ship with the flip of the voice she does so often. She’s an entertainer, man. But not only can she get silly with the voice and shit like that, she’s also clever as hell to go along with a dirty flow. Now David Guetta on the other hand? I do not respect the fact that he gets paid for making the same song over and over just with a different artist or two singing the same pointless lyrics with a new melody. Take it for what it is man, it’s just something to party to (talking to myself again).

David Guetta ft Flo-Rida & Nicki Minaj – Where Dem Girlz At (Anthem Kingz remix)

This sounds familiar? Hmmm. Taio really flips it on us this time by getting into the hand throwing himself. Or wait, was he the one throwing them last time too. When you say I, do you mean me? Is this like simon says? Taio throws? Nevermind, just jump around and get stupid.

Taio Cruz – Believe In Me Now (prod. Swedish House Mafia)

Ok let me get all Malcolm Gladwelll (google “Blink”) on you with this one. You CANNOT listen to the first 15 seconds of Kenna and make an educated decision (is that the opposite of ignorant?) on whether or not you like one of his songs. Just like Big K.R.I.T. was saying, it takes the whole 3:45+ seconds to really get a grasp of the full product these artists are dealing. Some take the short cut and just put out an instant ear pleasing, radio friendly club banger (see above) that gets played out within the first month of reaching the radio. Others are more daring to construct something truly unique or at least containing some originality derived from personal inspiration. These are the type of songs that have that lasting freshness. Each and every extra listen I give this shit right here, the more and more I realize how much I like it.

Kenna – Chains (ft Shimmy Hoffa) ….. Great fucking name right there

Not much needs to be said here. Its an obvious home run. Alright, maybe a solid double off the top of the wall, but dope nonetheless. The Knocks are the shit, and this Foster the People jam is beyond classic already. Boom, this is what you get.

Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks (The Knocks remix)

So I always think I know what chicks like, but I really have no fucking clue most the time. Usually the songs I post on Wifey Wed. are songs I like myself, and could see some girls enjoying as well. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of this Santigold joint. But I feel like on multiple occasions while talking to a girl its brought up that I download a bunch of hip hop music and blog and shit, and then she recommends some shitty M.I.A. song for me to check out. Anyway, I think this Santigold chick is pretty similar, at least this song, to some of that weird M.I.A shit.

Santigold – Go (ft Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs)

I don’t know, what’s your opinion on The Weeknd ladies? More specifically, did u check out that House of Balloons I posted in Wifey Wed. a couple weeks ago?  Hopefully my dudes at least skim through this too, cuz everybody needs to get up on that shit. Obviously, I’m still digging it. So here’s a solid remix.

The Weeknd – Wicked Games (ColeCo Remix)

Alright, this is one we all gotta agree on, no question, right? I mean who doesn’t love 2pac? And then “Skinny Love?” Who doesn’t love that Bon Iver shit? I don’t know this chick singing it this time, but she can definitely sing. And just in case I haven’t already put you onto it personally, check out this amazing  Bon Iver remix below.

Mother Earth Remixes & Young Church – Skinny Pain (2pac vs Birdy)

Bon Iver – Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub)
