Wifey Wednesday: RnB Edition! Chris Brown ft Snoop Dogg & 2 Chainz, Jeremih ft Fabolous, Frank Ocean, Miguel, The Dream ft Pusha T, Mario + more

I’ve been waiting for some jams like these for a while now. Maybe I just don’t get after the RnB like I use to, which I don’t, but my timing was impeccable this time around, and consequently I have discovered some heeeeeat-ers. RnB heaters of course, but heaters none the less. First up, C. Breezy who, by the way, I’ve heard has the most ignorant insane fans in the world….I said heaters, not beaters. I’m kind of over the whole Rihanna thing though. What I mean is, I don’t have a moral problem with liking Chris Brown’s music. It’s not like I ever really supported him monetarily in the past (thank you peer to peer and user sharing technology), and I’m definitely not going to now. Doesn’t mean I can’t still rock to it for free.

Chris Brown ft. 2 Chainz & Snoop Dogg – Oh Yeah

Aw shoot. How perfect is that title? Jeremih is back at it. I’m starting to remember why I love Hip Hop/RnB music so much. Fab HAS to be the best one verse surgeon in the game, right? Right!?

Jeremih ft. Fabolous – Ahh Shit

Frank Ocean is starting to remind me why I like Frank Ocean so much. As much as I enjoy “rocking” to the “heaters” (what? I can’t mockingly quote my own words?), this is really why I love RnB music. It’s just so damn fresh. I especially appreciate dudes like Mr. Ocean and Weekend and how they’ve led the way as of late to once again innovate the game.

Frank Ocean – Pyramids

Speaking of innovating artistic geniuses…is it just me, or does Miguel kinda get his Prince on with this one? I don’t mean to offend (if you’re a Prince fan), and honestly I don’t really know that much Prince music in the first place to warrant my judgement. But I don’t know, to me it kinda sounds like something Prince could fuck with. And honestly, If you know anything about Miguel, you wouldn’t be offended. But he kinda Robin Thickes it a lil with the whole whisper song voice too. Ay bitch, wait to you see my dick. Right? Not even a little?

Miguel – Party Life

The Dream is not much of an RnB innovator anymore. He did use to bring back memories of 112, once upon a time at least, and is undoubtedly one of the most immense contributors to the current landscape of the genre. The dude is just too good at what he does; why change now? Seriously, The Dream knows how to make an RnB jam. Remember this?

The Dream ft. Pusha T – Dope Bitch

Next up we got my favorite from ColeCo’s EP – El VeranoThe collection features a handful of solid remix material from some classic RnB smashes, including the featured, “I Wanna Be Down” by Brandy. Where he came up with “Ricky Smiley,” I have no idea. Remember when RnB wasn’t raunchy as hell and female artists had some self respect class? When you compare a song like this from the 90’s, to Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake Remix” of today, you gotta feel a little uneasy about the youth/future of our country.

ColeCo – Ricky Smiley

It’s getting late. I thought it’d be appropriate to finish this post off with a slow jam. Mari-Ohhhh! Bring it back middle school dance style. Please, quit your hating and enjoy.

Mario – Bed Love

Thumpin Thursday: Chris Brown, Chiddy Bang, Major Lazer ft. Partysquad, The Wanted (HLM Remix) + Foxes (Adventure Club Remix)

Is the alliteration thing too obvious? In any event, whether you’re trying to sweat it out on the dance floor or the treadmill, these beats outta get the blood flowing. I don’t really have anything else to say about the music because I’ve been too focused watching my shorthanded Bulls take it to the Knicks in the Garden. Derrick Rose again showed us why he is the MVP of the league. So sick. As a Bulls fan, it’s truly a blessing to witness this kid’s growth. It’s real nice to be a season ticket holder too.

Chris Brown – Turn Up The Music

Chiddy Bang – Ray Charles (Skeet Skeet Moombahton Remix)

Major Lazer – Original Don (ft. The Partysquad)

The Wanted – Glad You Came (HLM Remix)

Foxes – Youth (Adventure Club Remix)

Wifey Wednesday: The Weeknd, Miguel ft Pusha T, Pitbull ft Chris Brown, ODi ft Andrre + Lil Wayne (hmmm)

This dude is the shit. He was making reference tracks for Drake for a minute under the name “The Noise,” but I think he’s really hit stride with this new softer/darker sound as “The Weeknd.” Talk about talented….sheeeeeit.

The Weeknd – Rolling Stone

Since we’re talking about talented, let’s talk about my skills out there on the diamond, eh? Seriously though, competition is a must. Not just competition, but physical competition. I love that shit. Might need to take it down a notch or two for the co-ed 16″ league I’m in, but you play to win the game, right Herm? What were we talking about? Nevermind. Miguel dropped this track about 2 years ago, and I was on it from the very star (no lie). Dude already got blessed by J. Cole on “All I Want Is You” and  here he gets some help from an even bigger rap name. Great fucking song….way before Pusha decided to piggy-back the hype.

Miguel ft Pusha T – Sure Thing (remix)

I don’t like this, but chicks do. Pitbull’s next single?

Pitbull – International Love ft Chris Brown

I don’t know why I’m including this song in the wifey wrap up, but I’ve been holding onto it for way too long and now seems like the best time to share. Not even sure if the wifeys dig this shit, but very cool song, regardless. Very cool remix. Shit picks up after the 1:30 mark…

ODi ft Andrre – One in a Million (remix)

This song is absolutely awful. I’m just posting it to show you how far Lil Wayne has stooped to make money. This is fucking garbage. Honestly, is this really gonna be on Carter IV? This has to be a throwaway they leaked for the hell of it, right? I hope so….for the sake of all you Wayne fans out there. And yes, I went there with the “Wayne stay kissing babies” pic. That’s what haters do.

Lil Wayne – How To Love

Weekend Rap Up: New Music from Mike Petrow, Dre-Ski, Nike Nando, CurT@!n$, Jackie Chain, J. Cole, Tayyib Ali

“Apparently I’m passionate, the concept I’m graspin it
I’m trying to find the balance of hard work and happiness”

Being able to grasp your audience’s attention right from the get go is essential in Rap. It’s too easy to just fall into the rhythm of the instrumental and forget to pay attention to the lyrics. You can tell though, Mike wants you to pay attention to his lyrics as he provides some insight into “life.”Awesome use of movie samples (i.e. Almost Famous at the beginning) as well. This one comes off his recent mixtape “Wet Paint.”

Speaking of falling into a trance from the instrumental, this is exhibit A. I love this beat, and judging by the lyrical flow provided, so do Nike Nando and newcomer Dre-Ski. This one is off Dre’s newest mixtape “Cloud 8.7.” Pretty decent piece of work, with this being a highlight.

“She goes out and he goes in, in his shell where he wont bend
and he don’t fake and he don’t break, cuz he can’t take another heartbreak
she can see it on his face, that he ain’t happy but he wont say
cuz he don’t speak much and she can’t keep up, with his needs and he can’t either”

Here comes another rapper going over that “Knocked Up” Instrumental/sample from Kings of Leon/Lykke Li (see Tabi Bonney). CurT@!n$ (very annoying name to type btw) gives you his personal insight on women and relationship troubles. It’s pretty simple why I am attracted to songs of this nature rather than those about drugs/money, per se; I can actually relate. Isn’t that the point of music?

When I see Jackie Chain’s name, I gotta take a listen. First off, that name is awesome. And second, his country-ass, white boy flow is unfuckwitable. Always feelin Jackie when he gets a chance to spit over a solid instrumental. He’s got the voice to provide a solid hook as well, and this is no exception. This one’s dedicated to all those that don’t necessarily like to partake in the marijuana smoking activities. It’s ok, you aint gotta puff, you can get a contact hiiiiigh.

I’m telling you, Chris Brown is puttin in work. He’s gotta come up big in 2011 or he may never get back to that level of popularity he had before the Rihanna incident. Anyway, he contributes a nice hook on this one from the British rapper Chipmunk. That’s another trend that’s about to take on, the British are coming! I kinda dig the funny accent though, so I’m not mad. Of course, the main reason for this songs inclusion here is the J. Cole verse at the end of it. Its a Cole world (especially in Chicago).

Did someone say this world was cold? Well, Tayyib Ali agrees. Here, he describes the struggles he’s seen growing up, including his short journey to fame so far. This beat is too nasty. It’s a beautiful thing when the instrumental of a song matches the mood of the song, as delivered through reflective lyrics, perfectly. This one is produced by B-Free off Tayib’s recent mixtape “Eighteen.”

Big Sean – My Last (Clean) feat Chris Brown

Here is the first single off Big Sean’s debut album “Finally Famous” supposedly dropping this March. We’ll see about that. Maybe if this single picks up some heat and catches on. I’m not mad at it, better than most single attempts. And attention all rappers: Go grab Chris Brown RIGHT NOW at a discount while you can! Dude’s about to Mike Vick it in 2011, I can feel it.
