[A]typical Tuesday: Keep Shelly in Athens, LIPS (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix) + Jacques Greene (Kelly Rowland Remix)

Atypical meaning basically anything outside of the rap, hip hop and traditional r & b that regularly dominate the FUNK. It’s nice to change things up. It’s actually pretty imperative. Anyway, I’ve been hitting these hard on the commute, especially this Keep Shelly in Athens. Speaking of commute, how is it dark out at 4:30 pm? Wtf? Shit just makes me that much more tired and ready to accomplish nothing after work. I’ve been at a loss for words the past couple days as well, so posts are lacking. Also been getting my ass back in the gym. Can’t let this NBA lockout keep me down. But I got some new music I’ll try to continue to post with or without having anything useful to say. So for now, just listen.

Wifey Wednesday aka Guilty Pleasures: Mike Posner ft Rusko, Kelly Rowland ft Big Sean, The Weeknd, The Dirty Tees ft Natasha Bedingfield +Tom Hangs (Avicii remix)

I’ll admit it, I like SOME pop music….until it actually becomes POPular and then I go back to despising it. That’s not entirely true because I can actually like some songs a lot longer than others simply because I never listen to the radio. Therefor I have no idea, and do not feel the repercussion from, what is actually being shoved down people’s throats.

I actually kinda dig Mike Posner’s music. Dude has been producing shit for quite some time, and he’s definitely got a little different sound than most pop artists, both musically and vocally. It’s funny how he sings to the ladies…but for all the dudes.

(MP3): Mike Posner – Shut Up ft Rusko (updated link)

Kelly is winning over Beyonce in 2011, no? I mean, motivation has been that RnB Jam of the year so far, and I have absolutely no guilt in saying I still love it. This song here is a nice change of pace from the first single and will also garner a healthy amount of radio play. Although, I gotta admit after enjoying it the first couple listens, I’m kinda already sick of it. I’m sure the ladies can dig it though, and the dudes can tolerate it while they’re with em.

(MP3): Kelly Rowland – Lay It On Me ft Big Sean

That Fragma joint was thee shit sophemore year of high school. Hell, it’s still a helluva throwback. Shot out to my guy Garmasta, ha. Shit takes me back. Natasha does em justice on this Dirty Tees interpretation.

(MP3): The Dirty Tees – Miracle ft Natasha Bedingfield (Fragma Cover)

I don’t really know what to say. I dig club jams with solid vocals and dope beats. Avicii been doin work.

(MP3): Tom Hangs – Blessed ft Shermanology (Avicii Remix)

Contrary to the title of the post, I have no guilt enjoying this here. You know this is my shit. The Weeknd’s voice is killing the game right now and this dirty instrumental was kind of wasted, in my opinion, with Drake’s recycled verses from “I’m On One.” Trust is a bitch. It really sucks when that trust is broken, especially off some stupid shit because regardless, you rarely ever get it back. I think that’s kinda the point with this one.

(MP3): The Weeknd – Trust Issues (Drake Cover)

Best of….The Funk’s First Half of 2011: Top 10 R&B Slow Jams

I’m pretty sure I had something super insightful to say last night right as I was about to fall asleep, but I was too lazy/unsober to get up and make note of it….That really pisses me off, you know? I need to carry/sleep with a tape recorder so I can “note to self” like Norm McDonald and remember shit to write/talk about.

Anyway, I do remember this morning, and I was thinking about discipline on the way to the bus stop. I have no idea why, but looking back, I wonder if this might have anything to do with my hangover on the way to work…Anyway, I was just thinking about how much discipline it takes to be non violent. And despite what Nas says in his book of rhymes, Gandhi was no fool even if it seems as though the Machiavellians are the ones always getting ahead. Could you imagine what this world might be like had there been no Ghandi or Martin Luther King to provide some balance opposing those who believe it takes “the occasional need for the methodical exercise of brute force, deceit, and so on” (wikipedia) to accomplish their goals? Their ideas will never die and their accomplishments will forever give idealist like myself hope for the people.

Anyway, I guess I‘ve just been on this anti-“hard” tip for a minute. And well the opposite of hard is soft. And since I’m not really into being all hard and shit anymore, that must mean I’m Chris Bosh soft, right? So maybe I am kinda, but shits really not that black and white. Since college though, I have been all about the peace and love (how can they say marijuana is a bad thing?). Actually, always been about the love, just catching up with the peacefulness lately. That’s why RnB has always been one of my favorite genres. Not so much the faster RnB, mostly just the “slow jams.” Yeah, I love me some R. Kelly. This year was HUGE thanks in large part to the emergence of The Weeknd. Dude is gonna blow up big time. By the way, the top of this list is on some classic grammy type shit. I mean some of the best songs I’ve heard in yearZUH, let alone the first half of this one.

10. Collie Buddz – Playback

9. Erykah Badu – Gone Baby, Don’t Be Long

8. John Legend – Rolling in the Deep (remix)

7. Kelly Rowland ft Mario & LIl Wayne – Motivation (remix)

6. The Weeknd – Rolling Stone

5. Miguel ft Pusha T – Sure Thing (remix)

4. The Weeknd – The Morning

3. Frank Ocean – Novacane…..you gotta check the music video for this song. Really fuckin cool, especially how they visually describe the feeling of not having feeling (numb)

2. Drake – Marvin’s Room

1. The Weeknd – High For This

Wifey Wednesday: Beyonce ft Andre 3000, Shwayze ft The Cataracs, Iyaz, Mario ft Kelly Rowland & Lil Wayne, Rico Love, Verse Simmonds ft Kelly Rowland + Collin Mcloughlin ft Hendersin

So WordPress keeps track of all the hits I get from search engines and tells me what was actually  searched to bring them to the Funk. Here’s one from yesterday; ”Does Nicki Minaj like white guys?”….Yep, this is my audience. (Simmons)

First up, Boo Thang. You know, because boo by itself was just a little too formal, not to mention way too suggestive. So “when your friends ask, I’m not your man, just the closest thing that ya have to a boo thannnng.” Seriously, we needed a new term for that “not so much baby girl” but more than “just a cutty buddy.” I’m not even being sarcastic, I know it’s hard to tell sometimes. But boo vision?

(MP3): Verse Simmonds ft Kelly Rowland – Boo Thang

Next up, we gon’ put it down….I think. I’m actually kinda confused. Is he saying, “don’t put it down”? I thought you just said you love the way she put it down, Rico? Whatever, I like this one too.  Something to juke to.

(MP3): Rico Love – Pick It Up

I feel like this might gain some steam. Not a huge fan, but The Cataracs got quite the hype goin for em these days and Shwayze is always up for a chill summertime jam.

(MP3): Shwayze – Love Letter (ft The Cataracs & Dev)

When I saw the names Kanye, Andre 3000, and Consequence all attached to a Beyonce joint, you know I was pretty excited and eager to hear what came of it. Well, I’m pretty disappointed. But the ladies gotta love some new Beyonce, right? Btw, don’t be surprised if this song is removed from Hulkshare within about an hour of me posting this….

(MP3): Beyonce ft Andre 3000 – Party (prod by Kanye & Consequence)

This really pains me to post, because it sounds exactly like every shitty pop/club song I hate. But seeing as though Wifey Wednesday seems to get the most hits on my blog (smh), I gotta give the people what they want. I really hope those people are strictly females. Don’t get it confused dudes, this is NOT that jam.

(MP3): Iyaz – Last Forever (prod by David Guetta)

This guy Collin has a really nice voice. Pretty unique in my mind. You already know that new Khaled is the shit, and the beat is really what makes this joint. But I’m still diggin dude’s RnB interpretation with the switch of the theme.

(MP3): Collin Mcloughlin ft Hendersin – We Lost One (Im On One Remix)

This is easily the RnB beat of the year, in my opinion. I love this shit. Makes me wanna slow wind with a boo thang all night. Mario adds some killer vocals to the remix. I know what was motivating him in that Dancing with the Stars competition. Damn.

(MP3): Mario ft Kelly Rowland & Lil Wayne – Motivation (remix)

Wifey Wednesday: Kid Cudi, Britney Spears // Dillon Francis, Hall & Oates, Kelly Rowland ft The Dream + Frank Ocean

I was pretty busy last night and still a little depressed about the Bulls so I didn’t feel much like writing. I did however want to get these songs up in time for Wifey Wednesday. It’s Thursday now, and no matter how grim the Bulls chances may look at this point, I’m still pumped to go to the UC tonight. Hopefully all the negative nancy’s sold their seats so we got a good crowd of true Bulls fans. Anyway, this song took a lil while to grow on me, but it’s been blowing up the hype machine so I think you all should give it a listen.

Kid Cudi – Falling Star (R3K Remix)

I think this picture speaks for itself. Mustache? Check. Time to party.

Hall and Oates – Out Of Touch (DJ Kue Remix)

I think it’s safe to say I kinda like this Britney song seeing as though I really like all the mash-ups that have spawned from her vocals. This instrumental is real nice.

Basic Physics – A Beautician’s World (Britney Spears // Dillon Francis)

I think it was my first Wifey Wednesday post when I put this original up. Look at us now, Kelly. The Dream adds another male perspective to this jam right here.

Kelly Rowland ft The Dream – Motivation (remix)

I can’t believe it took me so long to get up on this one here. Joe Budden went over this instrumental after Frank, but I heard it from Joey first. Perfect selection for his Ordinary Love shit venting session. Frank does this one so dirty, if it was anyone other than Budden, I’d say they weren’t worthy. Love this jam.

Frank Ocean – Novacane

Wifey Wednesdays: New Mike Posner, Akon, T-Pain, Shwayze & Kelly Rowland ft Lil Wayne

You know who it is…it’s your wifey’s favorite blogger! Here’s some new female friendly jams for everyone’s listening pleasures. First off, let’s all thank Adele for the masterpiece called “Rolling in the Deep” that has spurned all these beautiful remixes. While Mike Posner may not be cool, he can still produce some pretty solid jams. He likes pulling the whole “take a song previously recorded by a female and create his own version”. Get it? It’s different and cool because he’s not a female…..and has a terrible voice compared to the original artist (see also “Halo” from a while back). I’m not a hater, I like his shit.

Mike Posner – Rolling In The Deep

Mike Posner – Halo

Moving on, I think Akon, T. Pain, and Flo Rida should just join forces and make nothing but club jams. There’s really no other point for them to make any other music anymore. Do they make any other music anymore? I miss me some “Trouble” Akon honestly, but dude has gotta eat, right? Whatever. Ladies? U might be able to get down to this. DJ’s? You might be able to rock these.

Akon – Love Handles

T. Pain ft Flo Rida – Im Dancin

Next up is Shwayze with a summertime jam to make you feel like shit if you live in Chicago. Also included a pretty cool remix of his breakout single “Buzzin” from a while ago.

Shwayze ft Cisco Adler – Summertime Girl

Shwayze ft Wale – Buzzin (DJ Skeet & Corey Nitta Remix)

Last but certainly not least, we got Ms. Rowland making some pretty hefty demands, but also providing some words of encouragement while she’s at it. Whats that Kelly? “And when we’re done, I don’t wanna feel my legs.” Ok ma, I gotchu. Ha. Actually, I don’t know about Kelly. I mean, yea but, probably nothing to shoot for. Now Mrs. Carter on the other hand, mmm mmm. Weezy’s biggest contribution here goes straight to Kelly by simply attaching his name to the title. That might actually be his only contribution. <—(hater)

Kelly Rowland ft Lil Wayne – Motivation
